Learning Objectives

The study program of this edition of the Summer Course in Cultural Studies refers to translation involving English-speaking countries and China, with a specific focus on translation studies, cultural studies, and gender studies, and film studies.  The specific aim of this Summer School is to study in depth the culture of English-speaking countries (language, literature, history, media) from the perspective of Cultural Studies This year’s edition includes China and is devoted to translating for the book market, for tourism, and the arts. Participants will acquire the following skills: building and managing the vocabulary and the registers specific to the discipline, recognizing languages and forms of alterity, analyzing texts and situations from an intercultural point of view.

Translation for book market, teaching, tourism, cultural mediation, arts, eno-gastronomy. All fields that require the knowledge of British, American, and/or Chinese language and culture.

iMonday and Tuesday = the same for all students, then we split into two groups: A = UK-USA, B = China

Classes will take place from Monday 15 July (2.00 p.m) to Thursday 18 (7.00 pm). The final exam will take place on Friday 19 (morning).

Individual study and the use of the Moodle platform will be requested. Students are required to attend classes (at least  2/3) in order to receive their certificate with 4 CFU (crediti Formativi Universitari).

Translation from Chinese: Eno-gastronomy, Arts, Tourism, Museums

A short translation. Mono-lingual dictionaries (either paper or electronic format) are allowed.

Organizzazione

Classes will take place at the CLA (Centro Linguistico d'Ateneo) in via Budassi. All students will be allowed to use the Moodle Platform in order to make exercises and share the contents and materials of the course
