This course is taught partially in Italian and partially in a foreign language. Study materials can be provided in the foreign language and the final exam can be taken in the foreign language.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, a student should have a good basic knowledge of the major periods and trends in the development of Chinese literature from the end of the imperial period to the to the first half of the 20th century, focusing on the changes that led to the formation of modern and contemporary literature and on the analysis of some of the most significant texts

Program

  • Novel at the end of Qing Dynasty 
  • The May 4th Movement and New Culture Movement
  • Chinese modern fiction: novels and short stories
  • The most important authors of the first half of the twentieth century 
  • Modern Chinese Huaju theatre: birth and its evolution in the twentieth century
  • Selected readings from various works

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

  • Knowledge and understanding: knowledge and understanding of the historical and evolutionary path of Chinese literature at the turn of the twentieth century (from the end of the Empire to the Republic era)
  • Applying knowledge and understanding: ability to conduct research and produce solid argument about the subjects studied

  • Communication skills: ability to communicate the content of the course using an appropriate language to the specific field of study

Assessment

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
