A new outlook on the industrial revolution. Chemistry and chemical arts in 18th century Paris
Abstract dell'evento
In my presentation, i will outline the primary scope of an ongoing project in which I aim to reassess the role of chemistry and its associated arts in the economic and social transformation of 18th-century Paris. I will emphasize the quantitative significance of the workers involved in the chemical arts, examining their roles, gender distribution, and key activities. Additionally, I will provide an overview of the collective identity of this population, estimated at around ten thousand workers, who contributed to the emergence of modern chemistry.
