The End of International Order
Abstract dell'evento
The seminar explores the evolution and fragility of the international world order, tracing its development from ancient systems like Pax Romana to modern frameworks like the Westphalian system, the Concert of Europe, and the post-WWII bipolar and unipolar orders. It highlights how power dynamics, ideologies, and diplomacy have shaped global stability. The collapse of the Soviet Union marked a brief unipolar era led by the U.S., which is now giving way to a multipolar world with rising powers like China and India. The seminar questions the sustainability of a unified world order amid increasing geopolitical tensions (e.g., Ukraine, Gaza), nuclear proliferation, cyber threats, and economic imbalances. It concludes that future stability may rely on regional orders linked by shared global values such as environmental protection, security cooperation, and cultural exchange. The seminar ends by encouraging debate on how to achieve a balanced and inclusive new global framework.
