Learning Objectives
Study of the historical and legal concept of secularism and analysis of religions and religious freedom in the European context
Program
The aim of the course is to show the emergence of secularism in European history, with special regards to its birth and meaning. The Italian legal order will be analyzed in the perspective of the relationship between secularism and religious freedom. Il will then be study in depth the role that the concepts of religious freedom and regulation of religious phenomena assume in the European context.

Knowlwdge and understanding
The course has the aim to provide students with high level knowledge about the socio-religious dimension in the Government of the State. It will help students to understand and analyze legal and institutional processes, both at national and international level, also through the use of a comparative approach, by acquiring specific high-level knowledge . This result will be achieved by using comprehensive didactical tools such as classes, seminars (of few students working on specific cases) and personal study.
After the curse the student will be able to make in-depth analysis of the political and institutional phenomena on the basis of the legal regulation provided by the Italian legal order; to analyze the functioning of public institutions in their legal and organizational shape in this specific context; to interpret socio-political religious phenomena with legal instruments.

A few classes will be devoted to the analysis and discussion of legal national and European recent cases.
