Learning Objectives

The course aims to provide a general view  of productions and  uses of plasters and plaster casts from the Antiquity to the modern period. 

Program

Through  a significant and diachronic selection of literary and material evidences introduced through outlines of relevant historical studies, ancient and modern plasters and plaster casts will be analyzed in their technical and material components, interpreted in relation to their specific end-usages and discussed in the social and artistic context that produced  them and in which they were used .

The student will acquire (a) personal knowledge of the methodological background of the discipline, the ability to recognize and  contextualize materials and contexts correctly, an  appropriate knowledge of the scientific language of the discipline.

Teaching Material

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Seminars, lectures, workshops. Educational journeys may be planned with students.

Teaching

Lessons supported by topical PowerPoints created specifically  for the course, and  visits to the Plaster Cast Museum of the University of Urbino (Albani Palace).

Attendance

Students must attend lessons and integrative activities (seminars, lectures, workshops).

During the course , specific readings will be suggested  in relation to the following publications, that are available in the archaeological sector of our library (Albani Palace, Via del Balestriere 2):

F. Haskell –N. Penny, L’antico nella storia del gusto: la seduzione della scultura classica, 1500-1900, Torino 1984 (also in English, Taste and the Antique: the Lure of Classical Sculpture 1500-1900, New Haven - London 1981). 

Assessment

Through oral examination, the student must demonstrate acquisition of the methodological background of the discipline, the ability to recognize and contextualize materials and contexts correctly, as well as appropriate knowledge of the scientific language concerning the discipline.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
