Learning Objectives

The course's purposes are:

to introduce the student to the poetics of Russian realistic novel of the 19th century;

to present the relationships between anthropology and literature

to recognize different realistic poetics and styles

Program

Russian democratic criticism in 19th century

The Russian literary characters as personlike beings.

The features of Turgenev's, Tolstoj's and Dostoevskij's characters

The course will enable the students:

to recognize and appreciate the poetics of Russian realistic novel of the 18th century;

to be aware of the relationships between anthropology and literature

to recognize different realistic poetics and styles

Tolstoj: Anna Karenina, The death of Ivan Il'ic, The power of darkness

Ghini: Anime russe. Turgenev, Tolstoj, Dostoevskij. L'uomo nell'uomo

Assessment

Beginning with academic year 2014-15 the exam is written. The exam consists of 5 open-ended questions and it lasts 50 minutes.

Evaluation criteria (for each answer): Adequacy (4 points), Logical organization (1 point), Grammatical appropriateness (1 point).

Only students passing the written exam with a minimum of 27, can ask for an additional oral exam to improve their grade.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.

Notes
