Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

Knowledge and understanding

The student will acquire the knowledge of the systems currently usable in different fields of geomatics, including the methodological bases. His level of knowledge and understanding will be measured by evaluating his language and the correspondence of the methodological bases.

Applaying knowledge and understanding

The course is highly practical. The student will apply his own knowledge during all the phases of the course and at the end he will have to be able to implement all his acquired skills. Both on the ground and in the laboratory, the student will have to demonstrate that the acquired knowledge is put to use with feasible applications.

Autonomy of judgment
The student will also be able to originally develop projects, developing skills that will allow him to face unexpected situations and find original solutions. He must be able to understand whether measurements or data processing are reliable or not.

Communication skills

The student must be able to communicate in different ways (reports, presentations, etc.) the results and summaries of the work performed. He must be able to use the specific language, possibly communicable even to non-experts in the sector.

Learning ability

As this branch of computer science applied to geosciences is in continuous and rapid evolution, the student will have to be able to also learn the new techniques and methodologies autonomously. The student will have acquired the ability, in the light of his own knowledge, to propose original solutions in the field of geomatic tools and methods.

Teaching, Attendance, Course Books and Assessment

Teaching

Theory lectures, practical laboratory, both face-to-face and on-line, and field work.

Attendance

Although recommended, course attendance is not mandatory.

Course books

- Teaching overheads

- "Quantum GIS" [URL]

"Il GPS per il Mapping GIS" [URL]

Assessment

Individual project and oral exam.

The topic of the individual project has to be agreed with the instructor and it has to be delivered 7 days before examinations. The oral exam consists of a discussion on the project.
The final assesment will be determined by arithmetical mean by grade of the project and examination.

Both in the editing and in the exposition of the individual project and in the oral examination, the student must demonstrate mastery of knowledge, ability to apply knowledge, elaboration of ideas, explanation, argumentation, mastery of specific language, critical exercise that will be assessed on various levels (insufficient, sufficient, good, excellent).

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.

Additional Information for Non-Attending Students

Teaching

Not-attending students could ask for teaching overheads and a personal colloquy.

Attendance

None.
