Learning Objectives

Through a training course that introduces the interpretation and processing of geomorphological maps and of the Quaternary continental deposits, the course aims to introduce students to the analysis of the forms and deposits related to them, aimed at territorial planning, environmental studies, risk assessment and resource enhancement.

Program

References to the basic concepts of Geomorphology. Geomorphological convergences and geomorphological indicators. Recognition of the shapes of the relief for the understanding of geomorphological processes. Introduction to the study of Quaternary continental deposits. Geomorphology applied to environmental management and territorial planning, ecology, archeology and the protection of cultural and historical heritage. Geomorphosites and geodiversity. Traditional geomorphological cartography with an applicative address and survey of Quaternary continental forms and deposits.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

Knowledge and understanding: at the end of the course the student must have acquired a good command of the subject and be able to identify, classify and map the main forms of the relief and the deposits related to them in fluvial, coastal and slope environments. Knowledge and ability of applied understanding: at the end of the course the student must be able to map and interpret the origin, evolution and chronosequence of related forms and deposits, also expressing them in terms of danger and / or environmental resource. Autonomy of judgment: at the end of the course the student must have acquired an autonomous ability in interpreting and cartographically representing the morphological elements and correlated deposits of a territory as a result of different mechanisms of morphogenesis both in progress and in the past, as well as understanding the trends evolution of the same and evaluate them in terms of danger and / or resource. Communication skills: at the end of the course the student must have acquired a good ability to map the territorial elements in question and communicate their acquisitions and considerations clearly and expressing themselves with appropriate terms and appropriate examples. Learning skills: at the end of the course the student must have acquired a good autonomy in developing cartographic and descriptive summaries of the geomorphological elements of the territory and in the critical search for information useful for the management of the elements themselves.

Teaching Material

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Teaching, Attendance, Course Books and Assessment

Teaching

Frontal lessons. Practical activity in field.

Course books

PANIZZA M. (2016) – Manuale di Geomorfologia Applicata. Franco Angeli Editore, 536 pp.

D’OREFICE M., GRACIOTTI R. (2015) – Rilevamento geomorfologico e cartografia. Dario Flaccovio Editore, 359 pp.

Assessment

Learning outcomes will be assessed through an oral exam. The assessment aims to verify the understanding and mastery of the program topics, the presentation and communication skills, the acquisition of an appropriate technical language. The oral exam is judged with a mark out of thirty.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.

Additional Information for Non-Attending Students

Teaching

The non-attending student will be provided with the necessary tools to acquire the knowledge related to the Course through meetings with the teacher, availability of didactic slides and advice on the texts.
