Learning Objectives
The student is provided with a brief summary of the most relevant problems and historical developments of Latin literature, from the origins to II AD. The student will get acquainted with crucial problems and personalities of Latin literature and acquire the fundamentals of a method of deepening literary analysis.
Program
The syllabus is twofold:
1. general part: its first section is a general part, where the students work independently, improving and consolidating their knowledge of Latin literature (genres, development and personalities) through the perusal of a handbook or companion on the topic.2. CORSO MONOGRAFICO
2. monographic course: it is developed by the teacher, who will provide the students with literary genres.
Bridging Courses
PRELIMINARY ASSESSMENT OF KNOWLEDGE OF LATIN LANGUAGE.
Students of the
- Archaeological and Philological-Classical
- and Philological-Modern curricula
must possess an adequate knowledge of the Latin language, guaranteed by a written, compulsory and preparatory assessment test to take the exam.

Knowledge and understanding
Students are expected to have a good knowledge of the authors, literary genres, historical phases and main themes of the history of Latin literature.
Applying knowledge and understanding
The students must be able to approach the reading of other works by the same author or by others in general with the methods acquired during the lessons, they must be able to move within a general framework of reference in which to place the various phenomena and be able to read some scientific essays on the specific subject that are not too demanding.
Making judgments
Students must be able to evaluate whether the information provided by a given text is sufficient to support a hypothesis or a judgement, they must therefore be able to formulate an autonomous reflection in critically evaluating the chosen passages, contextualising them in relation to their own historical period and literary genre.
Communication skills
Students should be able to express clearly and consciously the main points of Latin literature and of the texts read.
Learning skills
Like all the other disciplines, Latin literature contributes to the acquisition of the learning, analytical and synthesis skills necessary both to continue one's studies and to enter the world of work.

- Assessment
Oral exam which will cover the institutional part and the monographic course.
Excellent marks will be awarded to those papers that demonstrate the student's possession of critical ability; confident orientation in the presentation of contexts, including the establishment of links; appropriate use of specialist vocabulary.
The tests will be judged fair if they show that the student has a more than basic knowledge of the contents, supported by critical ability and orientation through the use of the language and technical vocabulary of the discipline.
Evidence that demonstrates that the student has achieved a minimum level of knowledge, even though there are gaps in his or her training, and that the language used is not entirely appropriate, will be considered sufficient.
Negative marks will be awarded to those papers which show difficulty in the orientation of the student with regard to the subjects tackled, serious gaps in knowledge and failure to use technical vocabulary.
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
