Learning Objectives

Comparative politics is the study of politics within states. Where politics is inserted in a context of order (the sovereign state). For this reason it differs from the other traditional discipline of Political Science which are International Relations, interested instead in politics between States and where the principle of order does not exist (anarchist international society). The first investigates politics in stable domestic contexts, while the second investigates politics in unstable extra-domestic contexts. Globalization changes these balances.

Program

With books included in the program of the International relations course, further information is also collected in the Blended learning didactic modality. The topics covered will present four general thematic areas:

1. Political comparison

2. Political change

3. Consent and election campaigns

4. Mass media and foreign policy

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

- Knowledge and understanding: at the end of the course students must have acquired the knowledge of the main theoretical models and empirical evidence about the evolution of the concept of political representation.

- Making judgements: the students will strengthen their ability to connect the concepts, theories and models presented throughout the course, their ability to deal with complex problems independently, to make judgements and critical reflections about the transformation of political representation.

- Communication skills: the students must be able to clearly and incisively communicate, appropriately using the lexicon, the concepts and the theories put forward by the political science literature on political representation.

- Learning skills: the students are supposed to develop adequate learning skills, so as to be able to extend and deepen the knowledge acquired throughout the course independently, following new paths of theoretical reflection or research.
