Program
The aim of this course is to provide the basic knowledge with respect to the key concepts, models, theories of law and methods of legal research in Europe and in the European Union. The course is divided into six parts.
1) Basic concepts. The first part introduces the key concepts of the discipline: the concept of law; of legal order; of rights; of the relationship between States (basics of international law).
2) EU. The second part provides for basic concepts concerning the legal aspects of the European Union.
3) Institutions and forms of government. This part deals with institutions and forms of government in a comparative perspective (basic principles; the theory of the separation of powers, etc.).
4) The sources of Law. This part focuses on the sources of law: from powers to decisions.
5) Judicial review in a multilevel legal order. The last part focuses on judicial review.
6) Basics of legal research. Methods, text and sources of legal rules in European and national law.
Parts 1, 2 and 6 will be delivered by Prof. Matteo Gnes; parts 3, 4 and 5 by Prof. Massimo Rubechi.
