Learning Objectives
The course aims to provide basic knowledge on geothermal energy, on the forms of use of the geothermal resource and on the main methods of geothermal exploration.
Program
Notes on the history of geothermics. High enthalpy geothermal systems: heat source, reservoir, cap rocks, fluid recharge. Geothermal exploration: geological, geophysical and geochemical methods. The mineralogical alteration as a tool in geothermal exploration. Vapor- and liquid- dominated geothermal systems. Generation of geothermal energy with conventional systems and with binary cycle systems (ORC). Low temperature geothermal through heat exchange with the subsoil (air conditioning with geothermal heat pumps): general principles. Direct uses of hot water (district heating). Environmental impacts. Regional geothermics: example of high enthalpy geothermal areas in Chile.
Teaching Material
The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it
