Learning Objectives
Themes
The study program of this edition of the Summer Course in Cultural Studies refers to translation from American English and Chinese, with a specific focus on translation studies, cultural studies, gender studies, and especially film and tv studies. The specific aim of this Summer School is to study in depth the cultures of China and the United States, including book market, literature, and cinema. Participants will acquire the following skills: building and managing the vocabulary and the registers specific to the discipline, recognizing languages and forms of alterity, analyzing texts and situations from an intercultural point of view, witha focus on media and film studies.

Objectives
Translation for book market, teaching, tourism, intercultural mediation, political science, literature, arts, eno-gastronomy. All fields that require the knowledge of Anglo- American and/or Chinese language and culture, with a focus on media and film studies.
Contents and structure of the course / Syllabus
Activities of PhD Students
Track A (USA) - Translation studies, cultural studies, Angloamerican literature; Language and translation (English), with a focus on media and film studies. (classes: 26 hours + individual study)
Track B (China + USA) - Translation studies, cultural studies, Angloamerican film studies; Translation from Chinese, Chinese culture, film studies. (classes: 30 hours + individual study)
Didactic structure: frontal and laboratory, in online mode (Moodle platform). Some lessons are for both groups, in order to create a more active debate, others are specific to the chosen path. Preparatory and ongoing readings available. Watching movies and videos will be part of the activities. The lessons will be held online, from 18 to 22 July, with a final test on 28, online.
