Learning Objectives

The diagnosis of trauma-related syndromes has been debated for years since the interception of the effects of trauma is a complex and multifactorial process. In particular, the impact of trauma occurring in the context of attachment relationships cannot be framed between the typical post-traumatic reactions and, although, to date, there is no official recognition of a diagnostic picture that captures this impact, many experts have identified and proposed, supported by promising scientific evidence, the Developmental Trauma Disorder as a symptomatological constellation able to explore the articulated trauma consequences of primary relationships. In fact, it allows the effects of traumatic attachment experiences experienced during childhood to be understood and recognized with greater clinical reliability, in addition to the most well-known post-traumatic symptoms, focusing above all on emotional dysregulation and so-called self and relationship disorders. They are specific primary relational dynamics that define the vulnerability of attachment and the persistence of some characteristic symptoms that are potentially fertile ground for further vulnerabilities and trajectories of polytraumatization over the life span without the classic post-traumatic symptoms being highlighted.

The aim of the Summer School is to explore, together with leading international experts, the construct of DTD both at a theoretical level and through interactive case illustrations (etiopathogenesis, manifestations and symptoms, transgenerational transmission). syndrome in terms of diagnostic recognition and clinical intervention, offering the possibility of integrating a systemic vision on the impact of attachment trauma on the child and on and in the family. Specific diagnostic tools and integrated lines of intervention will be presented.
