Extra dimensions: a struggle for existence
Programma
The concept of extra-dimensions is a long lived idea, tied to the possibility to explain the impossible. In his modern form in Physics, it was born in the context of the search for a unifying theory. In this sense, more than a century has passed from the geometrical implementation of this idea and despite the infinite series of stop and go moments, this option is still on the table. We aim to review some of this moments, in order to investigate how the quest for real extra-dimensions was some of the paths chosen by the Mathematics to unveil some unknown features of our physical world. In our journey, we shall also try to analyze the point of view through the lens of the Physics Solvay Councils, a privileged stage that gathered together the most authoritative voices of Physics.
