One Health. Supranational, National and Regional Experiences
Abstract dell'evento
The Conference “One Health. Supranational, National and Regional Experiences” is the Fifth GPN Global Conference, organized by the Global Pandemic Network (GPN) in partnership with the Institute for Global Health Emergencies Response (IGHER) of the European Public Law Organization (EPLO), UN-Habitat, the International Institute of Administrative Studies (IIAS), and the Universities of Macerata, Urbino Rome La Sapienza and with the support of Link Campus University of Rome and Ania.
The Conference, which is in hybrid mode, will take place in Rome (at La Sapienza University, on May 10; and at the Museo Nazionale Romano - Palazzo Altemps, seat of the Italian Office of EPLO, on May 11; at Macerata University, on May 13; and at Urbino University, on May 14).
The conference focuses on the “One Health Strategy” and how different countries are responding to strengthen their resilience, also in view of future health crises. The COVID-19 pandemic has made it clear that human, animal and environmental health are interdependent and cannot be managed through a sectoral approach but must be addressed through a comprehensive (“One Health”) approach.
Thus, “One Health” approach “is an integrated, unifying approach that aims to sustainably balance and optimize the health of humans, animals, plants and ecosystems. The approach recognizes the health of humans, domestic and wild animals, plants and the wider environment (including ecosystems) are closely linked and interdependent”, as stated in the Quadripartite Memorandum of Understanding signed by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Health Organization (WHO) on 17 March 2022.
The Conference aims at understanding the different approaches adopted by different countries (which will be discussed on Day 1), at examining the interplay with the defence of human rights and especially the connected litigation (Day 2), on proposing a GPN position paper (Day 3, in Macerata) and in comparing the different perspectives and approaches taken by the different sciences (from the legal and social sciences perspective to the medical and perspectives: Day 4, in Urbino).
