Learning Objectives
This educational workshop sets himself the task of leading the student in the analysis of cell populations with normal and pathological cytometric instrumentation. The bases of molecular biology relatively to the antigenic structures will be used for the understanding of the investigation cytometric analysis.
Program
General concepts of flow cytometry; flow cytometry as analytical method able to build data sets available for the construction of graphical models. Cytometric diagnosis as diagnostic imaging; concept of pattern. Some methods of data analysis (cluster analysis, analysis Boolean). Cytometric diagnosis as deepening of the data produced by the common hematology analyzers. Concept of lymphocytosis. Reactive and neoplastic lymphocytosis lymphocytosis. And mononucleosis-like illness mononucleosiche. The neoplastic lymphocytosis. General considerations on neoplastic transformation and clonality. Problems associated with the allocation of lineage and the demonstration of clonality (restriction for light chains). Concept of phenotype. Role of CD5, CD10 and CD23 in the classification of B-CLPD. Lymphoproliferative diseases of T lymphocytes, notes on their biology, their clinic and their natural history. Concept of aberrant phenotype. Concept of "blast cytometry". Strategies cytometric analysis. Attribution of lineage. Phenotypes "Leukemia-associated" (LAIP). Role of LAIP in search of minimal residual disease. Autologous bone marrow, general survey. Role of flow cytometry in monitoring the mobilization of hematopoietic precursors. Systems "single platform" systems and "dual-platform". HIV infection and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. Notes on biology, clinical and natural history. Role of flow cytometry in the diagnosis, follow-up, and in the monitoring of treatment.
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
The student must show mastery of basic knowledge about the techniques of flow cytometry for a proper understanding of how the different types of instrumental analysis that characterize the teaching.
The student must show an understanding of the protocols and theories provided by the course; It will provide examples of cytometric analysis identifying strengths and weaknesses of the various instruments depending on the field of biomedical research, hematologic and immunologic.
The student must show the requisite skills to use the concepts and knowledge acquired proving to reason according to the specific logic of the discipline. It will be able in particular to identify the most appropriate methodologies appropriate to the context in question; simulate a protocol of investigation; envisage some possibility of intervention by identifying the protocol best suited cytological analysis.
Teaching Material
The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it
Teaching, Attendance, Course Books and Assessment
- Teaching
The teaching consists of lectures and, especially, educational workshop exercises
- Attendance
It is required to follow the 75% of lessons.
Class attendance is necessary to obtain a good learning of the subject.
- Course books
They are accessible on Google drive as PDFs of lessons
- Assessment
It will make a learning test to assess the level of learning the entire program done and then achieve eligibility.
The course, for working students, for both full-time and part-time modality, will be repeated in summer courses.
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
