Learning Objectives

The course aims to show the moments, the forms and the media by which they went ripening recovery and study of Classical Antiquities in European culture from XIV to XX century, and to mean the legacy of classical Heritage, using as study-case the Parthenon.

The monument will be illustrated in order to planimetry, architecture, sculptures with peculiar attention to political-historical context of Periclean Athens.

Program

The course aims to illustrate the survival and revival of the Parthenon in Western culture through  its history from the time of foundation to the modern age. Particular attention will be paid to the history of the temple in the nineteenth century; in order to the critical considerations, specific focus will be the interpretation of the frieze.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

The candidate must demonstrate through an interview that he learned and developed independently the topics covered during the course, applying them to the critical discussion of the different aspects relating both to the history of ideas as the detailed knowledge of the Parthenon. The temple will be read in its topographical, historical-political and figurative context. n of the frieze.

Assessment

Oral examination. The candidate's move confident and critical comment in the problems explored during the course; must use properly the technical language of the topic, applying both to the description of the Parthenon as well as to the analysis of historical documentation. 

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
