Learning Objectives

This course aims to familiarize students with the main fundamentals, terminology and management instruments relative to the concept of sustainability and corporate social responsibility applied to the company and territorial context.

It furthermore proposes to develop students’ knowledge of accounting instruments used by organizations (of every size and nature – public, private and non profit) to actively report and request that other firms do the same concerning economic, social, environmental and ethical responsibility in the running of their businesses.

PROGRAM/CONTENT

The three-sided concept of sustainability: economic, social and environmental.

 Sustainable modernity: competitiveness, value-centered management of relations with stakeholders; the concept of the company’s overall development.

 The concept of corporate social responsibility and its evolution (towards an economy of the civic sector).

National and international standards and models for economic, social and environmental reporting.  

Integrated reporting.

 Students’ familiarity with and understanding of the concept of sustainability (economic, social and environmental).

 Students’ familiarity with and understanding of the concept of the social responsibility of firms.

 Students’ familiarity with and understanding of the standards and the instruments of social, environmental and ethical reporting.

 

 

Teaching Material

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

 Teaching take place in the form of seminar-style lessons  the dates of which will be agreed upon with the class members at the beginning of the course.

Besides the seminar-style lectures  speakers may come in to share their own corporate case studies.  Group work (focus groups and team work ) may be organized to deepen participants’ knowledge of certain topics and allow them to apply it to concrete cases.

At the beginning of the course materials will be assigned and information provided on how to procure them;  these will include electronic-based materials (ppt presentations); journal articles; documents downloaded from company sites (GRI; GBS) as well as paper-based materials (articiles; book chapters).

Assessment

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
