Learning Objectives
Providing a general overview of the applicability of applied ecology science to solve conflicts between human development and conservation of ecosystem services.
Program
1.1 Role of Ecology in analysis, assessment, management and recycling of environment modified by human activities.
2. Analysis: methodologies of analysis of human modified systems:
2.1 Urban and industrial systems.
2.2 Agricultural systems.
2.3 Forestry systems.
2.4 Freshwater systems.
2.5 Marine systems.
3. Assessment
3.1 Ecological foot-print of urban system productivity.
3.2 Assessment of minimal water fluxes admissible.
3.3 Assessment of organic load of water systems.
3.4 Assessment of touristic activities.
4. Management.
4.1 Management of animal life (regulation of hunting and fishing).
4.2 Management of forestry.
4.3 Biodiversity conservation actions.
5. Processes.
5.1 Sustainability of ecosystem services and human activities.
5.2 Climatic changes and agricultural production.
5.3 Climatic changes and human diseases.
5.4 Human health ecology.
5.5 Economic ecology.
5.6 Biotechnologies.
5.7 Invasive species.
6. Methodologies of applied ecology.
6.1 Chemical-physical parameters of marine seawaters.
6.2 Use of multiparametric probes for chemical-physical and biological parameters of marine seawaters.
6.3 Measurements of primary productivity.
6.4 Molecular methodologies applied to the ecology of marine microorganisms.
Bridging Courses
Ecology
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
Students will need to show that they have acquired a good basic knowledge of applicability of applied ecology science, as well as of the principal methods used for the analysis and applications.
Teaching Material
The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it
Supporting Activities
Lectures.
Lab experiences, and marine sampling trip by boat according with the Professor. Use of basic oceanographic instruments (CTD, Niskin bottle, Secchi's disk, phytoplankton net).
Teaching, Attendance, Course Books and Assessment
- Teaching
Lectures using slide material.
- Attendance
Students are highly advised to attend the course.

- Assessment
Oral examination.
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
