Learning Objectives

The course has the aim of developing students' linguistic and metalinguistic knowledge through a combination of stylistic analysis and translation.

Program

The course combines translation studies and textual analysis. The presentation and close reading of texts is followed by their translation, which is to be created by a collective effort (whenever possible). The students' translational activities will be evaluated non only in themseves, but also as a further methodology for understanding texts.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

The students must eventually learn to analyze various English text-types.

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Assessment

Written test (English-Italian translation and stylistic analysis of a short English text). The use of monolingual and bilingual dictionaries is allowed.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
