Learning Objectives
The course provides an introduction to monetary theory, to the effects of monetary variables on the macroeconomic system, the role of the Central Bank and the conduct of monetary policy. Subjects covered include: The nature and function of money. Classical monetary theory, neutrality and inflation. Theories of the demand for money. The banking system, financial intermediation and the determinants of the money supply. The transmission mechanism of monetary policy. The theory and practice of monetary policy by the ECB.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
Knowledge and Understanding: at the end of the semester students are expected to know the evolution of concepts and theories of money demand and supply, together with the theory and practice of monetary policy.
Applying Knowledge and Understanding: students will be able to understand the role of monetary policy and its consequences on practical situations, such as the interest rate dynamcs.
Making Judgements: students will be able to analyze information from different sources and provide their own judgements on down-to-earth situations.
Communication Skills: students will learn how to present results from their analyses by means of short reports and graphics.
Learning Skills: students will be able to apply knowledge acquired in other courses and integrate them with skills that they will learn during this course.

- Assessment
Final is a written test (5 questions on the study programme).
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
