Learning Objectives

The course is designed for students without any previous knowledge of ancient Greek, and its objective is to provide the necessary competences to allow a direct reading of ancient Greek texts.

Program

The course will be held in two semesters: the first semester will focus on the basic elements of Greek phonetic and morphology; in the second semester the acquired competence will be tested and developed through the reading and analysis of a selection of Lucian’s Dialogues of the Dead.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

Students will be led to a basic knowledge of the morphology of ancient Greek and to the ability in translating a Greek text of middle difficulty level. Students are expected to show: 1) mastery of these elements and ability to apply them in order to perform reading, translation, and comment of Greek texts; 2) more particularly, to be able to achieve both an overall understanding of Greek texts at first sight, and to produce an in-depth analysis of the morphological structures of anciet Greek in close reading.

Teaching Material

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it
