Learning Objectives

Students will need to understand the relationship between ancient culture and modern and contemporary culture, so as to acquire the linguistic, hermeneutical and cognitive tools to investigate historically and functionally any creative phenomenon of our time. They will also be able to read and interpret ancient literary texts, comparing them with the various 'rewrites' at later dates.

Th efirst deception against Sceledrus: ll. 156-595. 8. The carachter of Periplectomenus: ll. 596-764. 9.The first deception against PYrgopolinices: ll. 765-1437. 10. Reading and translation of Mil. 1216-1283. The 'recital' of Milphidippa. 11. Reading and translation of Mil. 1394-1437. The punishment of Pyrgopolinices. 12.The reception of the MIles gloriosus between 'commedia dell'arte' and Renaissance theater. 13. Staging Plautus and the Miles gloriosus today. 14. Plautus in cinema.   14a. Plautus and italian cinema.  14b. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum by R. Lester. 15. The Miles gloriosus and Pier Paolo Pasolini: il Vantone.
