Learning Objectives

Course Objectives are: in-depth knowledge of issues and problems related to human rights, as legal field and space of juridical conflict; critical awareness about the complexities surrounding these issues with respect to cultural diversity (principles and values, traditions, legal principles and legal systems) and socio-political conditions in which human rights emerge and claim recognition and protection.

Program

After a brief introduction to the topic of human rights, the program will take place on two fronts. On the first, we will deal with general topics: 1) institutional framework to reference of human rights at the international and national levels; 2) philosophical and theoretical approach to the problem of treatment of human rights through the perspective of "translatability" of the rights in a shared legal language, toward an idea of a common language for the rights in Europe; 3) an example of a bill of rights, non-European and non-Western that comes from Africa. On the second front we will present some specific topics involving some claims of "human rights" through the presentation of some current research. The involved fields are various: gender, political asylum, environmental protection, self-determination in choices of the end life, elder abuse, etc.

Bridging Courses

There is no obligation of prerequisites to access the course. However, the approach to the matter could be easier for the student who had already supported his examinations in philosophy of the law I and II, International Law and European Union Law.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

This ability will be encouraged during the entire course by the teacher and will be evaluated on examination (Learning skills).
