Learning Objectives
The main goal of the course is to illustrate the fundamental concepts of psychodynamic psychotherapy (transference/countertransference, therapeutic alliance, interpretation, resistance, etc.) and of the interventions and techniques adopted. The concepts will be discussed following a multiple perspective:
- theoretical,
- clinical,
- empirical.
The student will be provided with the conceptual instruments to comprehend and evaluate on an empirical perspective the therapeutic process.
Program
- The initial part of the course will focus on the presentation of the fundamental concepts of psychodynamic therapy, with a particular attention on therapist’s interventions (interpretation, clarification, etc.) and on the therapeutic relationship (transference/countertransference, therapeutic alliance, projective identification, etc.).
- The central part of the course will be dedicated to the illustration of the empirical research in psychodynamic psychotherapy and specifically on research on the most relevant construct for the subject (therapeutic alliance, reflective function, defense mechanisms, etc.).
- The final part of the course will be dedicated to the analysis of specific dynamic treatment modalities in relation to specific diseases such as Borderline Personality Disorder, Narcissistic Personality Disorder and Depressive Disorder.
