Learning Objectives
Conceived as an advance in the studies of aesthetics, the course aims to examine a relevant issue for philosophy, literary and artistic studies. Starting from the work of Nelson Goodman, it will explore the various languages of art. We will study the relationship between art and knowledge, language and writing, we will examine the notions of sign, symbol and representation, and thematise the importance and value of the stories for our life.
Program
The course will address the following topics in the following order:
Relationship between language and writing ratio (R. Harris).
Fiction and narrative. The relevance to hear and tell stories (J. Gottschall).
The languages of art. Symbolic activities and aesthetic experience (N. Goodman).

Knowledge and understanding
The student will be able to understand and explain the aesthetical-philosophical texts examined, to argue rigorously and to discuss critically the topics which have been dealt in the class.
Making judgments
The student will demonstrate independent judgment in the evaluation of the aesthetical-philosophical theories studied and he/she will be able to produce a personal reworking of the acquired knowledge.
Learning skills
The student will be able to master the knowledge and skills he/she has acquired.

- Assessment
An oral examination on two books either of the group (A) or on one of the group A and one of the group (B). Students may arrange with their teachers discussing a written report.
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.

Not attending students can contact the teacher in the office hours to ask for explanations about the content of the tests for the exam.
- Attendance
Please contact the teacher, preferably personally, at least three months in advance of the scheduled date of the exam.
