Vocational course aimed to prepare professionals.
Program
The course is splitted into two modules: first module, held in the first semester, is based on the hydrogeological and seismic risks; the second one, held in the second semester, is grounded on the Geological Engineering.
Seismic and Hydrogeological Risk:
Principles of safety in relation to the Italian and International (e.g. Eurocodes) Technical codes
The concept of RISK
Seismic Risk: seismc hazard, vulnerability (with fragility functions) and exposed assets
The local seismic response and seismic microzonation
Induced effects; landslides and liquefaction
Static and dynamic analysis of slopes
Geoengineering:
Principles of Rock and Engineering Mechanics
Geomechanical classifications of rock masses
Critical facilities: tunnels and dams
Rock slopes stability

As more subjects as possible related to the Engineering Geology are strongly recommended.
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
At the course end the student should demonstrate to have acquired the following skills:
1) to synthesize the basics acquired in the twoo educational cycles in relation to the Engineering Geology;
2) to afford autonomously and critically all the problems related to the Engineering Geology;
3) to integrate the knowledges in order to analyse the processes and manage the complexities;
4) to transfer and communicate the results of the computed processes for the best problem solution.

Lectures, tutorials and team work (optional).
- Attendance
Attendance is not mandatory but strongly recommended: besides, a basic knowledge of scientific English is required.
The knowledge of Engineering Geology principles (i.e. Geotechnical Engineering) as well as of maths, physics and statistics are warmly recommended.

Oral examination, intermediate written exam and/or technical report (optionals).

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
