Learning Objectives

Training objectives

Goals: The course aims to provide students with:

the theoretical and practical bases of geography in order to acquire a professionalism of environmental and territorial issues ;

fundamental theoretical concepts of teaching of geography and cartography

Program

The geographical bases. Geography: spirit, purpose, method. The man and the climate. The man and the waters. The man and the soil. The man and the biological resources. Environment, land, landscape. Landscape and scenery: the development and affirmation of a fundamental concept and its applications. Geographical areas. Environmental and territorial planning.

Educational bases. Educational role of geography. Teaching and learning, space, culture, territory. Absolute space, relative space and geographical space, space and perception. Data and statistics in graphing and mapping. Reading and interpretation of maps. Analysis and synthesis in interpreting global class as a laboratory for research.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

Acquisition of knowledge and skills suited to the teaching of human and physical geography:

- know and use concepts, methods and vocabulary of geography
-describe, interpret and communicate clearly issues of the contemporary world;
- know the objectives of geographical education and to program a curriculum based on education to the territory;

- know how to design lessons in geography with an active and laboratorial teaching.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:

-Knowledge of the evolution of geographic thought;

-knowledge and understand of the main lines of the epistemological debate of the discipline;

-knowledge of territorial problems and reality;

-knowledge of the interdisciplinarity of geography;

-basic knowledge of the human-environment system;

-knowledge of didactic tools (cartographic, iconographic, linguistic, literary, statistical, digital);

-the role of geography in the educational system and in the programs of school.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:

-Knowledge and understand of the concepts and theories provided by the course;

-direct and indirect observation capacity;

-knowledge and understand of relationships and integration between facts and phenomena;

-ability to apply geographic / didactic methods and instruments;

-ability to apply acquired knowledge

-understand and represent with different languages (multimedia, cartographic ...) the phenomena analyzed;

-relate knowledge and geographic methods with teaching-learning processes.

-acquire means and methods to teach the safeguard and respect for the environment and the civil cohabitation of human groups.

MAKING JUDGEMENTS:

-Capacity to interpret the often hidden hidden reasons and mechanisms of the system and the relationship between man and environment

-ability to find solutions to geographic problems;

-ability to identify appropriate research methods in different contexts

-ability to know and interpret problems at local and global scale; 

-ability to examine and interpret vertical / horizontal continuity / theme projects / projects;

-ability to design research hypotheses to deal with didactic cases.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

-Ability to communicate clearly, with arguing consistency and with appropriate disciplinary language specific knowledge.

LEARNING SKILLS:

-Capacity to locate the sources of research resources independently;

-capacity of criticism on the phenomena and situations that characterize discipline;

-use and know how to link the study material;

-understand the complexity of the relationships between environment-territory-landscape;

-understand the complexity of the landscape;

-ability to determine the effectiveness of certain educational choices;

-good autonomy in reading the study materials.

Assessment

The examination will be oral.

The evaluation will consider: knowledge of the proposed themes, the appropriate use of vocabulary, the ability to operate on and critical thinking, the ability to apply the knowledge learned in teaching.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
