Teaching in foreign languages
Course with optional materials in a foreign language English
This course is entirely taught in Italian. Study materials can be provided in the foreign language and the final exam can be taken in the foreign language.

Assigned to the Degree Course

Geological Sciences and Geoinformatics (LM-74)
Curriculum: APPLICAZIONI INFORMATICHE
Date Time Classroom / Location

Learning Objectives

Student must:

 - reach a good skill in MOVE workspace environment, working and thinking simultaneously in 2D and 3D, developing a consciousness on field data collection and meaning;

 - be able to draw a cross-section in 2D and to create a 3D geological model from filed data, geologic map or seismic sections;

 - get basic concepts on cross-section and 3D model restoration, in order to validate interpretation.

Program

1_ Introduction to MOVE workspace

2_ Field data import, editing and georeferencing: raster, vector and .shp files.

Digitization linear (geological/structural limits) and punctual (dip data) data.

3_ 2,5D and 3D surfaces.

Surface  construction, editing and dressing with linear, punctual data and thematic maps.

4_  Seismic section import and editing:

Import .segy and raster file, digitization, creation of datasets and time/depth conversion.

5_ Geologic section and 3Dmodel:

Cross-sections validation through unpacking and restoration according to different algorithms;

Cross-sections and 3D models construction from field data, geological maps, seismic sections and well data;

Restoration in 3D

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

knowledge and understanding - Student will acquire knowledge to work in an environment multidimensional.

applying knowledge and understanding - The course foresees the study of real cases and the processing of data from the student who apply its knowledge. At the end he will be able to implement all its skills.

making judgements - With the introduction of a multidimensional workplace, student acquires a greater awareness during data acquisition and processing.

communication skills - Student will be able to communicate in different ways (reports, presentations, etc.) the results of the work done.

learning skills - Since tools and applications are evolving rapidly, the student will be able to continually update, proposing solutions and original procedures.

Teaching Material

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Material prepared and delivered by the teacher

Assessment

Practice test: drawing in 3D environment of geological sections from field data and 3D model from sections. Processing sections starting from geological map, digitizing and data import.

Computer elaboration has to be argued and described demonstrating process and geological concepts understanding.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.

Additional Information for Non-Attending Students

Teaching

They can be agreed with the teacher depending on the case.
