Learning Objectives
The aims of the course is to provide students with the tools to understand the methods for the study of proteins (enzymes) and metabolites. With the lab experiences, the students will be able to assay the activity of an enzyme, to purify a protein and measure the concentration of a metabolite as well as to perform an electrophoresis.
Program
1) Principles of biochemical methods
2) Main tools/instruments of biochemical laboratories
3) Solutions and buffers
4) Prein purification
5) Chromatography
6) Electrophoresis
7)Quantitative assays
8) Immunchemical assays
9) Enzymatic kinetic
(see italian program for more details)
Bridging Courses
It is suggested to have previously performed and passed the exam of Biochemistry (second year) to improve the basis knowledge
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
The Dublin Descriptors will be the teaching goals
Teaching Material
The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it
Supporting Activities
Students will perform the following lab experiments with the collaboration of Dr. Ligi and Dr. Croce : protein electrophoresis, zymography, mini-spin chromatography, immunomagnetic assay. The students will receive the protocols of the lab experiments.
Teaching, Attendance, Course Books and Assessment
- Teaching
Lessons and laboratory seminar activities
- Attendance
Attendance of lectures is not mandatory, but students are warmly requested to participate in the lab experiences
- Course books
Maria Carmela Bonaccorsi di Patti, Roberto Contestabile, Martino Luigi Di Salvo: Metodologie biochimiche. Casa Editrice Ambrosiana.
Carlo De Marco, Chiara Cini: Principi di metodologia biochimica. Casa Editrice Piccin.
- Assessment
Oral exam
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
