Learning Objectives

The aim of the course is to acquire notions on human reproduction and Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART). The most recent knowledge on gametogenesis, embryogenesis, genetics in reproduction and ART will be illustrated. All the ART technologies such as: sperm evaluation and preparation, intra-uterine insemination, in vitro fertilization (IVF), intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), gamete and embryo cryo-preservation and pre-implantation genetic diagnosis will be described. Furthermore, notions on Quality Assessment and Management in ART and the specific Italian Legislation on the field will be explained.

Program

01 –    Human Gametogenesis: spermatogeneis and oogenesis (6 hours)
02 –    Sperm evaluation, sperm preparation and intra-uterine insemination (5 hours)

03 –    In vitro fertilization: ovarian stimulation, oocyte and sperm retrieval, in vitro fertilization (IVF and ICSI), embryo transfer (6 hours)

04 –   Oocyte and embryo evaluatiuon (5 hours) 

05 –   Cryopreservation of gametes and embryos (5 hours) 

06 –   IVF results and their social impact (5 hours)

07 –   Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis ( 6 hours)

08 –   Quality Managment and Assurance, Italian Legislation (4 hours)
