Learning Objectives

The course aims to introduce the theoretical and methodological fundamental concepts of cognitive neuroscience, starting from the neurofunctional architecture up to the study of the main cognitive processes, through multiple approaches. The course also aims to provide the basic information needed to understand behavior and the underlying cognitive processes, normal and pathological.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

The student must show:
1. to have learned the fundaments of the psychophysiological approach and the methods available for studying the relationship between mind and brain
2. to have understood the main cognitive models presented during the course
3. to know how to formulate hypotheses on physiological and pathological cerebral function from behavioral or imaging data

Teaching Material

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Supporting Activities

Ad hoc documentation / scientific articles provided by the teacher.
The lessons on instrumental methods will be covered by Prof. Manuela Berlingeri.

Teaching, Attendance, Course Books and Assessment

Teaching

Theorethical lectures

Attendance

Not mandatory

Course books

Gazzaniga MS, Ivry RB, Mangun GR. "Neuroscienze Cognitive". Ed. Zanichelli (excluding chapters 2, 4 and 5)

Bear MF, Connors BW, Paradiso MA. "Neuroscienze. Esplorando il cervello". Masson (only the chapter on Biological Rythms)

Assessment

The exam consists of two tests:

1) Written multiple choice (30 questions, each question has a value of 1 point).

2) Open written question on one of the subjects of the course.

In order to pass the examination it is necessary to take at least 18 in both tests, the final vote will be given by the average of the marks obtained in the two trials.

The duration of the test will be of two hours.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
