Learning Objectives
The course on Political Thought of Globalization aims to offer to the students a general and critical knowledge of the political (and also partially economical, juridical and social) phenomenons of the global age; at the same time, it aims to give the students the basic tools in order to understand the fundamental changing of the modern political lexicon and its concepts, such as nation-state, citizenship, democracy, civil society and so on.
From a methodological perspective, the course is organized in order to allow the students to afford the analysis of some recent events by reading and discussing in the class newspaper articles or journal essays.
Program
During the early modernity the concept of poverty experienced an epochal transformation, since the late-medieval meaning of poverty as a "form-of-life" wholly integrated in the social order was gradually substituted by an idea of poor as a marginal subject, alieneted from both the society and its productive system, and therefore to be reintegrated, even forcefully, within it.
In the XXth century, especially after the II world war, the developmental age represented the most ambitious attempt to defeat poverty at a global level, by means of macro-economical and political interventions, in particular within the so-called Third World; however, over the years this attempt has reveald a substantial failure in achieving its aim.
The present cours will start with a brief introduction, which deals with the history of the concept of poverty between the end of Middleage and the beginning of Modernity. Then, its second part will focus on the most recent criticisms of the capitalistic development and of the idea of poverty following from it. In conclusion, a critical analysis will be expanded over the possibility of an "alternative" application of the concepts of poverty and poor, aiming at a radical transformation of the contemporay politics of the subaltern classes.

At the end of the course the students must have developed the following abilities and competences:
1. contextualize the comlexity of the studied topics and recongnize them in similar political and social situations;
2. clearly communicate to expert and non-expert interlocutors the theoretical achievements of the studied analysis, by a genetical reconstrucion and a focusing on the problematic issues;
3. acquire a critical and autonomous ablity to afford social and political themes (both in method and in contents) similar to those considered duting the course.

Mainly frontal lecture, with the possibility for the students to intervene with detailed studies and in collective discussions.
Morevore, it is expected that during the course some scholars from the University of Urbino or from other universities will be invited to give lectures about topics related to the course subjects.

- Assessment
Oral examinations, directed to verify both the ability to synthesize information and the comunicative and the expressive skills of the students, as well as the achievement of the suitable political language.
During the classes there will be the possibiliy for the students to present a paper and/or give a lecture on specific subjects, which will contribute to determine the final grade.

Notes
The student can request to sit the final exam in English with a bibilography to be chosen upon aggreement with the lecturer.
