Learning Objectives
The course aims to provide basic notions related to the transmission of texts (manuscripts and printed) and to their philological analysis. Some lessons will be devoted to the authorial philology.

The course will be divided into two parts: 1) An overview of some disciplines directly related to philology, such as paleography and codicology; basic notions about the text transmission (manuscripts and printed texts), about the Lachmann' s method (its characteristics and application) and about that of Bédier; notions of authorial philology. 2) Analysis of some of the most significant critical editions of the texts of Italian literature from the origins to the modern age, with particular attention to Dante, Petrarch, Machiavelli, Ariosto, Leopardi, Manzoni.
