Learning Objectives
The course aims to provide the theoretical and practical knowledge of analytical techniques to check the purity of relevant compounds and pharmaceutics described in the Official European Pharmacopoeia.
Program
Introduction to the quantitative drug analysis. Lab equipment, materials and reagents. Preparation and dilution of solution.
Volumetric analysis: Acid-base titration, Redox titration, Complexometric titration. Purity check of relevant compounds following the Official European Pharmacopoeia. Quantitative analysis of Pharmaceutics.
Instrumental analysis: Liquid Chromatography (HPLC and UPLC) and Gas Chromatography (GC).
Bridging Courses
- General and Inorganic Chemistry to follow the lab
- Analytical Chemistry for the exam
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
- The student must show the possession of basic skills related to General, Inorganic, Analytical and Organic Chemistry.
- The student must apply the acquired analytical techniques to the determination of relevant compounds and pharmaceutics.
- The student must show the ability to write a lab report
- The student at the end of the course will possess enough understanding and knowledge to perform qualitative analysis of unknown organic and inorganic compound belonging to the European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur.). Moreover the student will be able to continuously updating his background through the study of the scientific literatures, databases and more generally from the WWW.
Teaching Material
The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it
