Learning Objectives
Medical devices and cosmetics products are two categories of products that are important for pharmacists.
The aim of the course is to provide the student the kowledge necessary for a correct choice and the most appropiate advice to the patients.
In particular the student will have to
- know how to distinguish the various classes of the medical devices and their difference from the drug in terms of the therapeutic action
- know the fundamentals of the medical device legislation
- know the main classes of medical devices
- konow the basics of cosmetic legislation
- konw the fundamentals of cosmetology applied to the most common treatments
- to establish the main raw materials used in th production of cosmetics
- knowing how to read a cosmetic label
Program
MEDICAL DEVICES
1. Principles of legislation and general information on medical devices. Classification of devices according to the new European regulation. The Medical Surgical Principals
2. Chemical and synthetic biometrials. The regulatory requirements for setting up and marketing the biomaterials. Some examples of prostheses obtainable with biomaterials and their functional characteristics.
3. Needles, syringes. Classification and use of needles. materials for the production of syringes and their marketing
4. DM for pregnancy: diagnostic medical devices for ascertaining pregnancy. DM for birth control.
5. Conventional and advanced dressings. Bandages gauze, plasters. Medications for bedsores and tissue regeneration
6. DM based on substances: differences with the drug and the food supplement. Examples of existing products on the market,
7. DM for injections and artificial fabrics. Examples of commercially available products based on iualuronic acid, botulinum toxin e
COSMETICS PRODUCT
1. Regulation 1223/2009, voluntary certifications (natural cosmetics), religious certifications (halal and kosher)
2. Cosmetic raw materials
3. Special cosmetic formulations
4. The main cosmetic actions: hydration, skin protection, sun protection, exfoliation, deodorization.
5. Hygiene and cleansing: cleansing of the scalp and body. Deodorization and covering of body odors
6. Cosmetics for the child, for the elderly. Male cosmetics. Peculiarities of these products intended for a public other than women
7. Industrial production of cosmetic products. Equipment, production organization, Quality Assurance and quality control
8. Make-up: the main forms of make-up (foundation, mascara, concealers). Camouflage for covering imperfections during a pathology
9. Fashion cosmetics. The new trends and examples of fashion cosmetic products

The subject of exam will be only what is presented at lesson.
The exams consists of a written test. It will be correct immediatley at the end of exam.
During the course and only for attending students, partial tests will planned for

Students who are absent for the exams (both partial and complete) without having been canceled from the list, will not be able to enroll in the next 2 appeals.
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
