Learning Objectives

The course aims to show the potentialities offered by GIS systems of organization and management of research, design and restoration work in the field of Cultural Heritage. GIS technology, already applied in disciplines such as archeology and museum management, revealed, on the one hand, its extraordinary potentiality as a tool for managing information and, on the other hand, the relative difficulty, connected to the spread of its use in the conservative practice.

08 - The topology in the graphical representation (hours: 1)

09 - Raster modeling and use of ortho-photos of paintings and panels (hours: 2)

10 – GIS and management of vector restitution (hours: 1)

11 - Acquisitions of spatial data and displaying them through the attribute table (hours: 1)

13 – Connection between the database and GIS using data from restoration laboratory (hours: 2)

14 - The relational database and the 12 rules of Codd (hours: 1)

15 – Use of Editor tools for the graphic rendering of paintings on canvas and frescos (hours: 2)

16 – Calculation of areas and perimeters of patches through Calculate Geometry (hours: 2)

17 – Analysis of the distribution of classes based on the type and size of patches using Patch Analyst (hours: 1)

18 – Using the Spatial Analyst for modeling and relief of paintings and panels starting from rectified raster (hours: 2)

19 - Using the 3d Analyst for modeling and relief of paintings and panels starting from rectified raster (hours: 3)

20 - 3D modeling using plans and elevations managed by ESRI ArcMap (hours: 2)

21 - 3D modeling using ArcScene for placement of georeferenced plans and elevations (hours: 5)

22 - Using the Model Builder (hours: 3)

23 - Using the Map Algebra (hours: 4)

24 - GIS processing and insertion of Metadata (hours: 2)

Total Course 48 lecture hours corresponding to 6 CFU.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

- students must obtain a good ability to use the dedicated software and be able to independently develop a project on the types of exercises in the classroom.

- the student will must be able to produce a report in electronic format (* .docx, * .pdf, * .pptx) with which communicate the results obtained from the development of the project realized.

- During the oral exam the student will have to explain, with the appropriate language, the development of the project and the results obtained.
