Learning Objectives

The course will direct students to the knowledge of the history of the main artistic techniques through the analysis of some artifacts of great value, the main engraving techniques and the graphic production outcomes of artists active between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries.

Program

The course is  dedicated to the history of design, we will look at materials, techniques and graphic typologies; the evolution of design in the activity of some artists (Pisanello, Botticelli, Perugino, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, Andrea del Sarto, Pontormo, the Carracci, etc.); the consideration it reached in the artistic literature and with some big collectors.

Classroom lectures will be supplemented by meetings with various specialists and by guided tours of art collections, especially of the local territory.

Assessment

Oral test designed to check the understanding of subjects dealt with during the lessons and of the text books shown in the bibliography, as well as the ability to create relationships between the various subjects examined. A capacity for independent investigation and the clear presentation of contents will also be assessed.

Assessments of excellence will be given for the following: possession by the student of good critical and investigative abilities; ability to establish connections between the main themes addressed in the course; use of language appropriate to the specific nature of the discipline.

“Fair” assessments will be given for the following: possession by the student of a mnemonic knowledge of contents: a relative capacity for criticism and for connecting between the themes addressed: use of appropriate language.

“Satisfactory” assessments will be given for the following: achievement of a minimal stock of knowledge on the themes dealt with by the student, even when there are some training gaps; non-appropriate use of language

“Negative” assessments will be given for the following: difficulty in orientation by the student when faced with the themes addressed in the texts under examination: training gaps; non-appropriate use of language.
