Learning Objectives

To provide advanced linguistic-literary skills in the context of the Hispanic literary tradition, with good knowledge of the selected texts, in verse and short narrative prose, according to the Hispanic literary canon - Spanish and Latin American - between the Golden Age and the 20th century.
To develop textual analysis skills, with attention to the different levels of work’s reading, to elaborate critical judgements through basic theoretical and methodological tools.
To support a specialized profile training for professional activities in the fields of scientific research, publishing, teaching and translation.

Program

Contents:
1. The verse in the Hispanic literary tradition - Premises: questions of method in the analysis of versification - Analysis of selected texts between Golden Age and 20th century.
2. The short narrative in the Hispanic tradition.- Introduction to the analysis of the short stories.- Textual analysis of different types in the Golden Age.- From the relato to the microficción in the 20th century.
* The choice of texts will include male and female authors from Spain and Latin America.

Bridging Courses

Prerequisites: Spanish language skills of at least an average level, as well as a basic knowledge of the history of Spanish literature.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

Knowledge and understanding of contents and characteristic problems of the discipline (historiographic framework of the literary genres, authors and issues concerning Hispanic literature, etc.), also identifying possible continuity with previous knowledge.
Applying knowledge and understanding in relation to the specific professional areas. Activities, as the seminar and textual analysis laboratory, will take into account the specificities related to the scholar teaching and to the literary translation profile.
Making judgements, encouraging learners' autonomy in their choices and organization study, in the formulation of hypotheses and in problem solving, in the elaboration of critical arguments and autonomous judgements.
Communication skills in clearly transmitting knowledge, ideas, problems and solutions to expert and non-expert interlocutors, with the good use of an appropriate specialized linguistic register.
Learning skills by improving previous study skills independently, with adequate critical maturity.

Teaching, Attendance, Course Books and Assessment

Teaching

Course held in Spanish, with lectures, seminars and laboratory activities of reading and analysis of literary texts.

Attendance

Attendance at lessons, ongoing participation in seminar and laboratory activities, with the delivery, before the final verification, of the analysis sheets or short papers required.
Individual study of the material that will be progressively included on the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Recommended texts and materials will be indicated on the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Assessment

There will be a final oral test, in Spanish, to assess the knowledge of the key topics (30% final grade) of the programme and the analytical skills (30%) about the texts selected during the course.
Participation (30%) in the proposed activities will be assessed, through the delivery of short analyses or written essays, as well as, at the time of the final oral test, adequate expressive mastery (10%) in relation to the specific terminology of the subject

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
