Strengthening the historical, cultural and historical-literary knowledge of learners and hone their critical skills; encouraging the acquisition of additional skills to correctly evaluate contemporary cultural phenomena and insert them in a broader and multidisciplinary perspective;  providing learners with methodological and theoretical-practical elements relating to contemporary Italian literature and Italian cinema of the late twentieth century.

GENERAL PART: Outlines of the history of twentieth century Italian culture.

A first part of the course, of a general type, will be aimed at providing students with a framework covering the fundamental features of the history of twentieth century culture, also through a significant anthological selection of texts which will be analyzed and commented on during the lessons.

1. Historical-cultural framework of the Italian twentieth century.

2. Reading of exemplary texts and documents.

MONOGRAPHIC PART: Fragility and rebellion: the youth condition in the twentieth century in literature and cinema.

The second part of the course, of a monographic cut, will focus on the youth condition and the ways in which it has been represented in the literary and cinematographic field. For a reconstruction of the image of young people and youth imagery, as well as on literature, the course will focus on some particularly significant films, in a methodological perspective based on comparative studies and cultural studies.

3. Introduction to Neorealism and the work of Pier Paolo Pasolini.

4. Analysis and commentary on Pasolini's texts.

5. Introduction to the young Italian fiction of the eighties of the twentieth century and to the work of Pier Vittorio Tondelli.

6. Analysis and commentary on Tondelli's texts.

7. View and comment of some cinematographic works related to the course topics.
