Learning Objectives
The course aims to orient the student in the panorama of the model of community psychiatric assistance that has developed, in Italy and in the world, after overcoming the model of psychiatric assistance founded exclusively on the great Psychiatric Hospitals. To achieve this goal, the course is divided into three parts: the first one dedicated to the knowledge of the history of psychiatric care; the second is dedicated to focusing on the structure of the current Mental Health Departments in which the clinical psychologist will work, as trainee or psychologist: the goal is to make the clinical psychologist aware of how a Department is articulated of Psychiatry and what is the relationship between the places of clinical intervention (SPDC, Center of Mental Health, Surgery, Intermediate Structures) and the clinical forms in which the mental disorder manifests itself; the third part is dedicated to the deepening of a clinical theme of particular relevance and commitment in the practice of the Service
Program
The first part of the program is dedicated to a brief historical introduction, focused on the transition from an asylum assistance model to the new territorial or community psychiatry, which will outline the inspiring principles and organizational aspects, with the aim of outlining the role of the clinical psychologist. as part of the activities of mental health services (preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic-rehabilitative).
The second part of the program aims to illustrate the organizational and operational modalities of modern Mental Health Services, based on the principles of community psychiatry.
After some hints concerning the psychiatric nosography (with reference to the DSM-5) we will consider behaviors that can be inscribed in different psychopathological disorders, outlining the different characteristics at the level of subjective experience experienced (for example, self-injurious or suicidal). Or we will consider particularly serious clinical pictures with which the Services typically work: bipolar disorders, chronic-course schizophrenic disorders, severe personality disorders. In every occasion, we will try to achieve integration between different perspectives: epidemiological, medico-biological, clinical psychology and psychopathology in a phenomenological-dynamic sense.
The third part of the course will give space to the illustration of the main classes of psychotropic drugs and the description of clinical pictures will be integrated, as often as possible, from examples drawn from the clinic especially with clinical seminars to which they will be invited to participate as co -docent colleagues who work in the Services and who can bring their direct work experience.
