Learning Objectives

Surface anatomy course allows the identification of anatomical structures. At the end of the course, the student knows the anatomical structures that can be detected on the surface of the body for a better understanding and diffusion of physical techniques and exercises.
The basic knowledge of the anatomical structures of the human body is deepened through the surface anatomy course which, by means of visual and manual detection techniques, allows the identification of anatomical structures such as bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, vessels and nerves , and projections of viscera, detectable on the body surface. The course provides an initial description of body parts and related movements. Subsequently, structures that can be seen, palpated, mobilized, or visualized during medical examinations will be presented. It will also be described the repere points . At the end of the course, the student will know the anatomical structures that can be detected on the body surface for better understanding and dissemination of the techniques and exercises.

Program

By means of visual and manual detection, it allows the identification of anatomical structures, such as bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, blood vessels and nerves and visceral projections, detectable on the surface of the body. Repere points will also be described.
INTRODUCTION: anatomical position and movements. CUTE: epidermis; dermis; subcutaneous tissue; hair; glands; nerve receptors. FACE: facial bones and muscles; lateral surface of the head and temporomandibular joint; orbital cavity; nose; oral hole; external ear. NECK: front, neck back and side; larynx; sub-mandibular region and neck vessels; innervation of the head and neck; lymph nodes of the head and neck. TORACE: front and back surface of the chest; projections of the pleura and lungs, the heart and the large vessels; chest side; breast gland and axillary cavity. ADOMEN AND PELVIS: surface points of the abdominal viscera; abdominal incisions; back abdominal wall; trunk skin innervation; inguinal region; male perineum, scrotum and penis; female perineum. BACK: surface sparse aspects. UP ARROW: front and back of shoulder and arm; front and back of the elbow and forearm; front and back surface of the wrist and hand; eminence tenar and hypotenar; carp channel; innervation and arteries of the upper limb. LOWER ARROW: femoral triangle; fore and medial area of ??the hip, thigh and knee; lateral and back surface of the hip, thigh and knee; fossa poplitea; front leg, ankle and foot surface; back of the foot; medial, lateral, back of the leg; foot plant; innervation and vessels of the lower limb. Surface anatomy on acupuncture.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

At the end of the course, by visual and manual discovery, the student will learn the identification of anatomical structures such as bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, blood vessels and nerves and visceral projections, which can be detected on the surface of the body.

The student will know the anatomical structures that can be detected on the body surface for better understanding and dissemination of the techniques and exercises.

Teaching Material

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Teaching, Attendance, Course Books and Assessment

Teaching

Frontal lessons, with the possibility of clarification at the end of the lesson or by appointment.

Attendance

There is not frequency requirement.

Course books

Anatomia di superficie, le basi anatomiche dell'esame clinico. John S.P. Lumley, Casa editrice ambrosiana, 2008. At the end of the course, students can consult the slide that the teacher will upload on the university site.

Assessment

Oral examination. Subjects discussed during the lessons. Understanding the arguments, language property, and linkage between the various topics will be evaluated. The student should be able to correlate the surface anatomical structures with the internal organs.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
