Learning Objectives
The object of the course is the achievement by the student of a good level of knowledge concerning the historical-critical understanding of the stylistic and constructive features of the architecture of every historical period, from Greek classicism to the twentieth century. The course is articulated according to two guidelines: a methodological theoretical approach(ex cathedra lessons) and an application approach, carried out with practical exercises, related to reading through direct observation of some Urbino buildings. It is thus proposed to provide the tools necessary for a correct interpretation of the historical / constructive aspects of the architectural work as a whole and in the parts that make up it. In summary, the most important themes of architectural language in its constructive and expressive aspects (structure, metrology and proportionality analysis, morphology and syntax of architectural language) will be illustrated. A knowledge aimed at the correct application of conservation and restoration operations.

Teaching, Attendance, Course Books and Assessment
- Teaching
For a better learning of the constructive and stylistic characters of the monuments analyzed during the theoretical lessons, the attending students will perform graphic exercises during lessons.
In order to pass the exam, it is mandatory for each student to prepare a term paper that will cover the critical historical analysis of a monument, and the choice of the latter will be agreed with the teacher.
The term paper must be delivered in digital format (.pdf and .doc) at least 10 days before the exam.
- Attendance
Class attendance is appreciated.

After the illustration of the thesis, which will concern the historical-critical analysis of a work of art chosen by the student in agreement with the professor, we will move on to an interview on the topics covered in the lessons and in the basic bibliography.
The evaluation criteria for the thesis are: the ability to know how to apply a method for the study of the work of art; the ability to be able to express a critical judgment. Two thirds of the evaluation out of thirty will be attributed to the thesis.
The evaluation criteria for the oral discussion are: the level of mastery of the topics covered; the degree of articulation of the responses. One third of the evaluation out of thirty will be attributed to the oral discussion.
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
