Learning Objectives

The course aims to provide students with the theoretical concepts required to understand the fundamental phenomena of the international monetary economy: balance of payments, exchange rates, macroeconomics policy in an open economy under flexible and fixed exchange rate regime, the historical evolution of the international monetary system, the theory of optimum currency areas, the international financial crisis.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

After completing the course, students must have adequate general knowledge about the fundamental issues of international monetary economics, knowing apply with independent judgment the knowledge acquired and to understand and  problems related to the international economic contexts. They must also be able to communicate individual ideas and them emerged in working groups.

Teaching

Lectures and involvement of the students individually or in groups for the realization of written essays and presentations on specific issues.

Attendance

To be considered attending, students must frequent 75% of lectures.

Assessment

Oral examination and ongoing evaluation of the work in the classroom. The oral interview is aimed at assessing the level of competence, acquired in the ability to coordinate knowledge and skills, to deal with complex situations or problems in the context of international economic analysis.
