Learning Objectives

The course will give the knowledge of two works of one of the most important writers of French Eighteen Century, and information about his ideological, historical and literary context. It will give instruments for the analysis of literary texts and their comprehension in the history of ideas.

Program

After an introduction of Rousseau's life and works, and of his place in the French Enlightment, passages from Confessions and Reveries will be read and expounded, with particular attention to happiness and its realization.
