Learning Objectives

The course aims to provide students with basic knowledge of the anatomy of motor control systems . The course is also designed to give the student the knowledge of the anthropometric values, useful to define the somatotype of the athletes in relation to the  physical activities.   .

Program

Biology elements: notes on the structural organization of the eukaryotic cell.

Connective tissue: extracellular matrix organization and cellular components.   Bone and cartilaginous  tissue

Classification and anatomy of the joints. Types of movement. Amplitude of movements.

Muscle tissue: skeletal muscle tissue.  Morphological aspects of the contraction.  The concept of motor unit, muscle shortening velocity, strength, flexibility, muscle spindles, muscle tone and its applications.
Theory of muscles, one, two and polyarticular muscles, the role of muscle fixation, external load and internal load. Notes on smooth muscle tissue

Nervous tissue: neuron and glial cells.  Electrical and chemical synapses.  Membrane potential and action potential. Neurotransmitters. Neuromuscular junction.

Lymphatic system

Nervous system: Spinal cord. Brain (brain stem, cerebellum, midbrain, cerebrum, the main areas of the brain). Major nerve pathways.  Anatomical bases of reflexes.

Anthropometry: Anthropometry definition and reference values.. Anthropometric measures in adults and in children, based on age and gender.  The body composition (fat mass and fat free mass). Anthropometry applied to physical activities and sports.

Assessment

Oral examination

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
