Learning Objectives
WRITTEN PRODUCTION
Acquire a high level of writing in particular the technique of synthèse (summary) starting from a document composed of three texts (2 in French and 1 in Italian). The document can consist of different kinds of texts: mainly newspaper articles but also images (photos or illustrations) e graphs and tables. Each document contains information that the student has to extract and reformulate with the aim of producing a coherent and cohesive text.
LISTENING comprehension
Acquire a high level of oral comprehension and the ability to take complete and relevant notes (prise de notes).
ORAL PRODUCTION
- Learn to give an oral presentation with complete awareness of verbal and non-verbal language used
- Easily express a detailed point of view clearly and coherently.
- Ability to respond to questions regarding the topics dealt with in class and discuss them fluently.

WRITTEN PRODUCTION
During the first semester the theory will be explained and the first application of synthèse will be made.
During the second semester students will work intensively on different kinds of texts in order to improve the technique.

The stages of synthèse
1. First approach to the text

4. Writing the synthèse (title, introduction, development of main ideas in 2/4 paragraphs, conclusion)
LISTENING COMPRENSION
Students will listen to a variety of audio and video texts and train their listening by completing open ended questions (intensive listening) or taking notes (extensive listening). Finally they will write up a text in which the main points they heard are summed up.
The lessons will take place in the language lab. A different listening text will be presented each week.
Main themes of the listening texts: economy, current affairs, tourism, marketing, soft skills, Francophonie, communciation strategies, travel and culture
