In compliance with the CEFR reaching level B1 enables one to satisfy basic communication requirements within different areas such as socio-cultural, educational and professional; and to receive the first level Russian language certification (TRKI) necessary for admission to universities and institutes of the Russian Federation. As well as in everyday contexts, the situations in which one should be able to express oneself with relative ease and to achieve one’s communicative aims include at administrative offices, the theatre, the railway or bus station, the airport, the pharmacy, the hotel etc. One acquires the communicative skills necessary to describe one’s experiences, emotions, dreams, projects, events; and to justify one’s choices and express evaluations; to understand non-adapted informative and descriptive texts. The themes for oral and written communication regard autobiography, choice of profession, the education system, traditions, personal interests, the problems of modern cities, nature and ecology. The minimum vocabulary required is 2,300 lexical units.
